Post-apocalyptic visual novel game
VIRTUAL GIRL @ WORLD’S END is a visual novel game set in a futuristic 2055 Tokyo, where the world's resources are almost depleted, sending people into despair. It introduces Vstars, virtual idols who perform live streams. They hold onto their dreams and face their struggles while trying to bring some light.
VIRTUAL GIRL @ WORLD’S END combines a grim, post-apocalyptic setting with the lively world of virtual idols, crafting a unique story that delves into profound ideas such as hope, self-discovery, and human connection. It explores these themes against the backdrop of a world slowly coming to an end due to human greed.
A fun game with a bleak story
VIRTUAL GIRL @ WORLD’S END begins with Wei Lai, an operator in the desolate slums, whose life changes upon meeting Ai, a mysterious AI girl. Despite her lost memories, Ai's dream is to bring happiness through singing as a Vstar. Their journey together slowly brings color back to Wei Lai's bleak existence, exploring the deep connection between virtual personas and real people, and the evolving bond between AI and humanity.
One of the game's strongest points is its character design, led by Osamu Nobusawa from BanG Dream! The vibrant, expressive visuals stand out against the grim backdrop. High production quality is evident in the voice acting and in the unique in-game music videos. The narrative is quite impactful, with a powerful bad ending in the first week that truly sets the emotional stage for the hopeful good ending that follows.
However, the game does have a few small quirks. Players might find the interface a bit clunky, like not being able to use the mouse wheel for history or the left mouse button during auto-play, which can slightly interrupt the flow. Also, some content is mature, so it's not for everyone. Still, despite these minor issues, its fresh concept and artistic flair make it a must-play for visual novel fans.
A unique visual novel game
VIRTUAL GIRL @ WORLD’S END offers a truly unique visual novel experience, blending a bleak future with the vibrant world of virtual idols. Despite minor UI quirks and mature themes, its exceptional art, voice acting, and deeply engaging narrative truly shine through. It’s a compelling journey into hope and identity, making it a memorable and worthwhile play for those seeking a distinctive story in a genre-bending setting.
