Set in New York City, this is the fifth installment of the Vampire: The Masquerade series after its predecessor, Vampire: The Masquerade: Coteries of New York. Developed by Dear Villagers, it’s available on PC and gaming consoles. 

Vampire: The Masquerade – Shadows of New York works similarly to games like Disco Elysium, Resident Evil 3, Fate/stay night REMASTERED, and Assassin’s Creed, which gives a visual novel adventure gameplay experience that lets you investigate and solve mysteries. 

A visual novel vampire game 

Vampire: The Masquerade – Shadows of New York’s plotline centers around Julia, a former freelance investigative journalist and a new member of the vampiric society. Her life now revolves around being an immigration officer, observing vampire movements in and out of New York. However, things turned upside down when she was assigned an opportunity to investigate an unsolvable murder case of a high-profile vampire. 

With this, her journalist background resurfaces as she needs to end this mystery murder and give justice to the vampire victim. Throughout the gameplay, you’ll dig this death as your future as a vampire depends on it. As this game is a spin-off and a direct sequel to Coteries of New York, most of the main characters in the first game are here too, except Julia who is a new one. 

In this game, you’ll use Julia’s vampire powers like her super strength, stealth abilities, and other hypnotic powers. Five important decisions matter in the game’s story, dictating the traits Julia has, and the ending that you can get in the game depends on the traits that Julia can exhibit across these choices. However, for players who enjoy personalizing their character in games, this one doesn’t have customizations for your role’s appearance.
