The United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) is a government agency that oversees the immigration system in the United States. The USCIS ensures that people residing in the United States legally at the time of their application are eligible to become citizens of the United States.

USCIS requires that applicants provide evidence of a lawful permanent residency status, as well as evidence of citizenship status, for example, by presenting a valid passport or permanent resident card. The USCIS is responsible for confirming that applicants are eligible to become U.S. citizens.

USCIS accepts applications from people who are eligible to apply for U. citizenship and who have one of the following forms of identification:

A passport

A permanent resident card

A United States passport card

A United States permanent resident card

USCIS also accepts applications from people who are not yet legally eligible to apply for U. citizenship.
