Multi-purpose app launcher for Macs

Tuna is a free productivity application for Mac from indie developer Mikkel Malmberg. It is a third-party multi-purpose app launcher and action center that provides users with a way to open apps and perform various tasks by typing or dictating. It offers four modes, designed for different needs and purposes. There’s also an optional one-time purchase Pro version to unlock full capabilities.

App launching and more

There are four ways to use Tuna, and the first is Fuzzy Mode, wherein you can type the full or partial name of the app to open it. Next is Text Mode, serving as an action board that you can type anything on to save, copy, or paste to other apps. It can even be used for quick conversions or solving calculations.

The third is Leader Mode, based on an app called Leader Key, that lets you open apps using key combinations. Build a rule set from scratch or import a JSON file. Lastly, there’s Talk Mode, which allows you to dictate anything to save as text or treat as a command prompt. The app is still in Beta, but additional features are in the works, including extension support, emojis, and more.

Quick and smart

All in all, Tuna is an impressive modal launcher that changes the way you launch apps and perform certain actions, and it’s all faster and for the better. It’s pretty intuitive to use, no matter which mode you’re on, and it will just get better with further development and more features in future updates. Suffice it to say, this is a must-try for any Mac user.
