Trillian is a free chat & instant messaging app as well as a business and HIPAA compliant program. HIPAA stands for the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act as Trillian wants to keep its users updated with urgent messages at all times. The program also wants to limit the use of email chains and texting by creating secure chat rooms for groups of 3 or more. The purpose of Trillian is to connect multiple instant messaging services into one platform. You can create several connections in one service as well as put together these accounts under different identities to keep things organized. All your contacts, however, are found under one contact list. This will come in handy for accessing one contact person on several applications. 

Several clients stored in one platform can be a way for internet sleuths to gather information on you. Trillian prevents this by having an encryption system built into the program. Otherwise called as SecureIM, the security feature is in charge of encrypting messages from user to user. This means nodes that are passively observing your nodes will be able to read or view anything. 

While you can add various chat apps on Trillian, you will not find their corporate logos there. The reason for this is to avoid copyright issues. Instead of logos, you will find a color-coding scheme based on the original program. For example, Facebook is shown as two blue and teal horizontal bars. Twitter, on the other hand, is a teal envelope. This may not be ideal for you if you are a user that recognizes apps for their logo and not their color. 

Gamers unite

Trillian also includes gamers as one of its consumers. This means you can overlay the chat while playing a game. The feature is inspired by Steam’s overlay chat, but Trillian’s advantage is that you receive messages from multiple platforms at the same time. The chatbox can be toggled to show the time as well as the chat window itself. It comes with tabs so you can access a specific channel or query. This allows you and your contacts to connect with one another even if they’re from a different timezones.
