Torchlight: Infinite is a free adventure game that was developed by XD Networkd Inc. for mobile devices. It is the latest entry in the long-running Torchlight game franchise. This action RPG's story is set 200 years after the events of Torchlight II and shows the effects that Ember Technology is having on the world.

Taking cues from its predecessor, Torchlight II, Torchlight: Infinite will feature an action-packed and expansive adventure that players pick from a variety of character classes, all with their own unique skills and abilities. The game is available for preregistration now via its official web page.

Come full circle

Torchlight is an action RPG game franchise that first appeared back in 2009. The series has made a name of itself all on its own, with its now-signature cel-shaded game and character designs, steampunk aesthetics, and fun and accessible gameplay. Out of its three mainline releases, Torchlight II still remains the favorite among gamers hence, Torchlight: Infinite will follow its story arc.

In this game, the world relies solely on Ember as its main power source for machinery and magic applications. However, hidden behind the seeming prosperity looms a dark corruption that is slowly spreading. You are part of an elite task force called Torchlight, and it is your duty to stop this threat before it's too late. You will get to choose from four character classes for the battle ahead.

In addition, there are a total of 24 skills trees, with over 180 skills and abilities spanning across them to help you create a playstyle of your own. As mentioned earlier, you can visit its official website to preregister, but there's no official release date yet. There's also an ongoing closed beta, and you can request access to possibly play and preview the gameplay before it comes out.

The Whispering Mist season 

With promises of Cthulhu-style horrors and roguelike gameplay, Torchlight: Infinite’s Whispering Mist update immerses players in a realm of mystery, danger, and untold secrets. In it, players delve into Mistville, a once quaint town now shrouded in a mysterious fog. Venturing into its mist-laden streets puts players at risk of infection, courtesy of its ominous residents. As you explore deeper into the Netherrealm, new zones, powerups, and challenges await.

To navigate the fog, players must utilize lanterns acquired during their journey to maintain their sanity. Be very careful, though, as the mist hides not only the evil residents but also Mist Monsters eager to thwart your progress. Of course, to counter that, you eventually get skill slot adjustments as well as possibly unlock Legendary gear. Besides that, the update also introduces Clock Tower challenges and Activation Mediums.

Clock Tower challenges present opportunities for lucrative rewards, while Activation Mediums simplify gameplay and enhance skill synergies. For more thrilling combat action, you can also check out the Divine Might Trials. Collect Divine Might Emblems from six gods to prove your worth and unlock access to rare loot from Spacetime Wanderers. Finally, Cateye Erika is granted a new hero trait, Lightning Shadow, which can be accessed permanently by Golden Season Pass holders.

Arcana seasonal update

The 7th seasonal update was recently released called Arcana highlighted by a new trial called The Wheel of Destiny. Representing the infinite cycles of fate, find Tarot Cards spread across the Netherrealms that will provide three unique challenges, namely The Sun, The Hermit, and The Chariot. Completing the ordeal will unlock the Tarot Secret Path, a board game-like experience with treasures to be had.

There's a new growth system called Destiny which lets you use Fates and Kismets enchantments on your talent nodes for attribute boosts and new combat mechanics. This update also marks the introduction of Iris the Vigilant Breeze, who merged with the Spirit Magi to deal elemental attacks or provide life-sustaining support. She is joined by the Rock and Magus Magit, completing the line-up.

Other notable changes include reworks to legendary gear to improve their effects with specific character builds that focus on ailment and trauma. If you prefer playing with friends, there is the City Defense challenge wherein defend an Energy Crystal from waves of enemies. Endgame content has seen the Supreme Showdown and Boss Conquest getting new challenges and bosses to test your skills on.

Rising from the embers

The Torchlight series has had a tough time rediscovering the magic that made Torchlight II great, but it's getting another chance with Torchlight: Infinite. While it's too soon to tell, the trailer and early sneak peek of the gameplay point to good signs. For now, you just have to preregister and wait or try to get in on the action via the closed beta.
