toPhonetics Free is an Android app developed by Mu-sonic that converts English text into phonetic transcriptions using the International Phonetic Alphabet. This app provides phonetic transcriptions of the entire text, not just the dictionary forms of separate words. Users can choose between British and American pronunciations, with the former following British phonetic convention of voicing the [r] sound at the end of a word only if followed by a vowel. The app uses IPA symbols, and the structure of the text and sentences is preserved in the phonetic transcription output, making it easier to read.

toPhonetics Free also offers an option to vary pronunciation depending on whether words are in stressed or weak positions in the sentence, similar to connected speech. The app's database contains a substantial amount of place names, nationalities, and popular names, in addition to commonly used vocabulary. If a word has multiple possible pronunciations, the user can select the one that agrees with the context by tapping on it. The American transcriptions are based on the open Carnegie Mellon University Pronouncing Dictionary.
