Tony Block’s Faux Skater is an indie game authored by We Be Team, cjcp, and Josh Mattie. It is a sports simulation that will have you play as the iconic skateboarder, Tony Block. In the game, you will have to pull off all kinds of sick moves while maneuvering trick ramps. The game boasts life-like effects, including the shatter should you fail to do a trick. However, these effects can be taxing on computers with lower specs. 

What is Tony Block’s Faux Skater?

The authors of the game described Tony Block’s Faux Skater as a wannabe N64 skateboard simulator. In the game, you will be given various skateboarding ramps that you need to maneuver. As you go through these ramps, you will also need to perform randomly generated trick moves. The cleaner the moves, the higher the score you will get. To make the game more interesting, there will be a bird that will swoop down as you play. You can use do tricks on top of this bird to rack up the points until it flies away.

Aside from performing tricks, you will also need to collect coins. These collectible coins are worth 100 Tony points, which can help in your quest to achieve the highest score. Players can now reset their high scores and coins if they want to try and get a new record. 

As noted, the game showcase life-like physics, including a terrifying crash animation. However, unlike similar games, such as the Tony Hawk series, this game’s design is not based on real skate parks. Instead, you will see a colorful map you often see in arcade games. Even your character will be a faceless cartoon-ish skateboarder.

Not for old hardware

While the premise of Tony Block’s Faux Skater is nothing new, the game still provides a brand new experience. The trick moves, the obstacle ramps, and even the coin collection will challenge you throughout. Add in great effects, and you will have a worthwhile sports game. However, to enjoy these effects, you need to have the right computer specs. If you are using old hardware—and even a laptop—you will need to lower the resolution and make a do with a crunchy quality. More so, some of the tricks are practically unplayable without a controller. Luckily, the game has Xbox One controller support.
