Springfield, but make it chaotic

The Simpsons Hit and Run, developed by Radical Entertainment and published by Vivendi Universal Games, is an action-adventure game set across a 3D version of Springfield. It combines vehicle missions, on-foot exploration, collectibles, and a tongue-in-cheek alien conspiracy involving Buzz Cola and suspicious surveillance.

The game targets Simpsons fans and retro players who enjoy arcade-style driving with comedy baked into nearly every corner. Its strongest appeal comes from recognizable locations, familiar characters, original cast voice acting, and humor that captures the show’s personality.

A Springfield road trip with plenty of dents

The Simpsons Hit and Run presents seven levels across areas such as the suburbs, downtown Springfield, and the docks. Players control Homer, Bart, Lisa, Marge, and Apu, each tied to specific parts of the story and unique vehicles. The game also includes 56 missions, hidden collector cards, outfits, unlockable cars, and a Hit and Run meter that triggers police chases after enough reckless driving.

Missions, mayhem, and collectible bait

Missions mix timed driving, chase sequences, on-foot tasks, and scripted gags that move the satirical plot forward. The police pursuit system adds light pressure by fining players 50 coins when caught, which can affect pacing during repeated attempts. Hidden secrets, classic cheat codes, and unlockables give the game strong replay value, although the frequent driving objectives can feel repetitive over long sessions.

Old game smell, modern setup quirks

The PC version was built for older systems, so modern play often requires compatibility settings or community-made launchers to improve resolution, stability, and quality-of-life support. That extra setup is one of the game’s clearest drawbacks. Its older visuals and controls also show their age, even though the bright art direction and fast arcade handling keep it enjoyable.

Still the best kind of licensed chaos

Limited official availability on modern storefronts makes The Simpsons Hit and Run harder to access than it deserves. Even so, its faithful Springfield recreation, authentic voice work, collectible-heavy structure, and easygoing comedy keep it alive among longtime fans. It remains one of the most beloved Simpsons games, especially for players who want a funny retro driving adventure.
