The Mystery Of Eigengrau is a free-to-play puzzle game from Rigor Mortis Interactive. This game puts you in an escape room situation, blending puzzle-solving with survival horror elements. Make your way through a forest and into what seems to be an abandoned church, finding objects of interest to move forward each time.

For a mobile game, The Mystery Of Eigengrau has some seriously good graphics. Paired with smooth animation and effective atmospheric sound work, you have a game that’s equal parts engaging and challenging. It feels like an upgraded version of Granny or Horror School: Escape Room.

An escape game with immersive storytelling

The Mystery Of Eigengrau immerses players in a tale where the details unfold slowly as you progress. While the concept is not necessarily innovative, it manages to weave elements of the story together coherently. As mentioned, you start out in a forest and slowly make your way through an old cathedral. There are puzzles scattered everywhere and even the most unassuming objects could be the key to the next part.

Visually speaking, the game has good graphics for a mobile game. One can easily place this between SILENT HILL: Ascension and Granny. Its level of detail is comparable to walking sims but with increased interaction with the environment. The puzzles are also varied, from finding missing parts to continuing patterns. Lastly, the sound design is commendable as it is both appropriate and often well-timed.

As a survival-horror experience with puzzle-solving elements, get ready for a couple of challenges. The game’s jumpscares and puzzle designs are intent on causing inexperienced players to fail, requiring a couple of tries to complete the run. Other than that, the presence of mature themes such as gore and violence is to be expected, making it unsuitable for younger players.

A well-crafted game for mobile

The Mystery Of Eigengrau offers an immersive escape game experience with a well-crafted storyline that unfolds gradually. While not groundbreaking in concept, its coherent narrative and diverse puzzles keep players engaged as they navigate different locations. Visually, it stands out with commendable graphics and detailed environments, akin to walking sims. However, its survival-horror elements may challenge inexperienced players, and mature themes make it unsuitable for younger audiences.
