The Backrooms: Survival
Roguelike survival game based on The Backrooms

The Backrooms Mod is a free game utility that adapts a popular internet urban legend into your Half-Life (HL) engine. This retains the first-person shooter (FPS) elements as you collect the same weapons, but scattered in a seemingly infinite, nonlinear space. This mod captures the popular elements of both properties, making it immediately intuitive for players.
The Backrooms Mod makes the most out of what is available to create a sprawling map despite its technological restrictions. Unfortunately, it has no enemies and the level is not procedurally generated. You can also check out the Decay Mod or the Inhuman Mod.
The Backrooms Mod brings the online urban legend to the HL engine. It has spawned a couple of adaptations, such as Escape the Backrooms. Every time, it has been recreated as an infinite otherworldly dimension that has yellow walls, floors, and lighting. Depending on the unfortunate visitor, the layout and the content change. The randomness and the presence of monsters are notably absent in this mod.
Lastly, as an interpretation of the Backrooms, this looks different. Instead of a realistic-looking backroom wall and floors, some levels of this mod are colored in blocks of different shades of yellow. The use of heavy, solid colors instead of smooth and natural-looking ones can get disorienting after a few minutes of gameplay. As an intentional design option, however, it adds suspense and unpredictability to the experience.
That is not to say that this is not worth a try, though. Aside from the equally massive custom map, it also contains a number of obstacles and environmental hazards ready to take out your character. This combination of suspense, puzzles, and action necessitates the need to find and collect weapons. Again, despite not being a procedurally generated mod for randomness, it has close to 200 levels.
Fans of The Backrooms might be turned off with The Backrooms Mod—it lacks randomness and some sections are poorly generated. The lack of monsters is up for debate, especially since the original story didn’t mention any dwellers in the infinite and random space. Still, as a Half-Life mod, it works surprisingly well. It is intuitive and retains most elements that make it familiar for HL players.
