The project was launched in 2014 with the goal of generating data on the composition of the main foods consumed in Brazil, with the goal of contributing to the development of the scientific knowledge on nutrition. The main objective is to achieve the highest accuracy in the food composition tables and have the results be accepted and applied by health professionals and the public, as well as to improve the quality of food and the nutritional profile of the food consumed in Brazil.

The project is coordinated by the Núcleo de Ações para o Controle da Calidade Nôtrica (Nepe/Unicamp), in collaboration with the Brazilian Agricultural Research (Embrapa), the National Agency for the Food and Nutrition Services (ANSAN), and the Brazilian Association for the Improvement of Nutrition (AAT).
