تاريخ دمشق لابن عساكر is a massive book consisting of around 80 volumes, written by the famous Imam Al-Hafiz Al-Muhaddith Al-Shami Ibn Asakir. It is considered one of the most significant works in Islamic history. The book deals with the history of Damascus, including the biographies of the city's inhabitants, narrators, and their related stories. The book also translates a vast number of Islamic scholars' biographies from the time of their appearance until the author's death. The book has an enormous literary value, in addition to its historical significance, for its attention to the poets' biographies, their news, and their poems. The author almost gave up completing this book, but the then-ruler of Damascus, Nour Al-Din Mahmoud, urged him to continue and complete it. Ibn Asakir added to it until his death, and his son Qasim revised it and arranged it in its final form. The book is a masterpiece in the history of cities.
