For years, battle royales have become among the most popular genre when it comes to action games. With countless titles released regularly, it seems that the fever for this type of game is far from over. Among the games taking over the mobile arena is Survival Squad. It is a free last-man-standing-type shooting game in which many players are pitted against each other until only one remains standing—or four, if you decided to play on teams. 

Become the last man standing

All the players start the match jumping off a plane. To increase your chance of survival, you need to start running and collecting weapons the moment you hit the ground. Don’t worry, though. There are lots of weapons lying around, so you can have yourself armed before your enemies start attacking. 

However, the conflict in the game does not end with man vs. man. Aside from the other players, what you will have to worry about is the blue fatal force field that slowly shrinks. You must avoid this force field at all costs to avoid dying. 

As noted, the game allows you to play solo—that is, if you are confident that you can survive the entire gameplay without the help of anyone. However, if you are feeling a sense of camaraderie—or you don’t want to suffer alone—you can ally with three other players. If you are all lucky, the four of you can stand as the winners. 

Survival Squad uses a typical control system. You will have a directional pad that you can use to control the movement of your character. There are also buttons to shoot, duck, get down, jump, and aim. The game also allows you to interact with objects, such as weapons and boxes, by tapping the menu that appears when you get close to them. 

Lacks originality

Looking at it, Survival Squad does not stand out for its originality. In fact, it is heavily influenced by PlayersUnknown Battlegrounds (PUBG) that it feels like it’s the same game. From being parachuted to a shrinking island to gathering weapons and killing one another, its gameplay is not something new. Moreover, there are other games, such as Free Fire and Knives Out, that employ the same gameplay. 

What separates this game from PUBG, however, is the fact that you can join forces with three other players and aim to win as a pair or a group. With the latter, you only have to rely on yourself to survive. Teaming up actually increases your chance of survival. 

Nothing new to offer

Survival Squad is a good online action game. It comes with concise gameplay and a very fun experience that meets the expectations of the players. It is also just as entertaining to play solo as it is in pairs or teams of four. However, there is really nothing new in the game. Everything has been done by games of the same genre. Despite having a different title, it will still feel like you are playing your old battle royale games.
