Surah Yaseen is one of the great examples of a Quranic verse in the form of a du’a (supplication). The story of the angelic angels that come to the grave and lift the curtain (Shaitan pulls it) while the soul of the deceased recites this du’a, is a testament to the power of supplications in Islam. The du’a itself is a great reminder that prayer is an essential part of Islam and that no matter how small or difficult life may seem, we need only ask.

The Surah is usually recited at night, as it is at that time that it is most effective. The Surah begins with the words “YaSin, kun” which means “there is good in prayer”. Many people are scared of the Surah because of its length and its intense prayers to Allah. The meaning of the Surah, however, is to teach the importance of du’a (supplication) and good actions. For those with faith, du’a is the most beneficial prayer and the meaning of this Surah is that it is the key to the Qur’an and the key to Allah’s pleasure.
