In this Surah, Allah introduces the Prophet to the people and tells him that they have been given the opportunity to be on the right side of the law, and that their future is bright with promise. In addition, the Prophet is also introduced to the people of a particular city who had been led by a group of wicked people, and are in need of a leader. The Prophet is thus introduced to them and is given the message that they should follow him.

This Surah is one of the most important ones in the Qur'an and is often referred to as "the Key" to the Qur'an.
