Super Mario Eclipse is a free single-player arcade game created as a mod for Super Mario Sunshine. It combines the exploration elements of Super Mario Sunshine with the gravity-defying mechanics of Super Mario Galaxy 2 and the classic feel of Super Mario 64. Developed by the Eclipse Team, it’s a fan-made project that is available on PC. 

Super Mario Eclipse adds new features, levels, and mechanics. As it’s a careful mix of nostalgia and innovation, it offers a comprehensive platforming experience to the fans of Super Mario. Aside from this, another mod for Super Mario Sunshine is the Super Mario Sunshine: Super Mario Sunburn Mod.

Expands Mario’s Isle Delfino adventure 

Set in the Super Mario universe, Super Mario Eclipse follows Mario’s quest to stop Bowser and his forces from plunging the world into eternal darkness — hence the game’s title. In this game, you can explore large open-world areas reminiscent of Super Mario Sunshine’s Isle Delfino, complete with water-based platforming and the return of Mario’s companion, the Flash Liquidizer Ultra Dousing Device (FLUDD).  

The mod offers 120 new Shine challenges, three new playable characters, and new and remixed boss fights. It also integrates gravity-based puzzles from Super Mario Galaxy, adding a layer of spatial awareness that changes how players approach certain levels. One of the game's key features is its focus on freedom and exploration. Levels are designed with multiple pathways, secrets, and collectibles, giving players ample reason to revisit them. 

Additionally, the variety of environments, from sun-soaked beaches to otherworldly planets, keeps the experience fresh and engaging. The controls are smooth and responsive, with Mario’s classic move set — long jumps, backflips, wall kicks — intact, along with some new mechanics that expand on his platforming abilities. However, this mod's gameplay doesn’t focus on character development or customization. It is not ideal for players seeking purely character-driven games.
