সত্যজীত রায় (May 2, April 23, 1992) was an Indian film producer, director, art director, music director, and writer. He is considered one of the greatest filmmakers of the 20th century. Born into the renowned Ray family in Kolkata, he hailed from the village of Masuya in the Kishoreganj district of British India (now Bangladesh). He studied at the Presidency College in Kolkata and later at Visva-Bharati University, founded by Rabindranath Tagore. While initially starting his career as a commercial artist, it was after watching the Italian neorealist film "Bicycle Thieves" (Ladri di biciclette) in Kolkata and later in London that he became inspired to delve into filmmaking.
