Supervised Supplementary Feeding Program (SSFP) is an initiative by the Department of Women Development and Child Welfare in Telangana to tackle the high prevalence of malnutrition among children aged 6 to 59 months. The program is being implemented in collaboration with ICMR-NIN Hyderabad in KB-Asifabad and J-Gadwal districts. The program focuses on early identification of cases and making services accessible at the community level by providing a new food called Balamrutham +, along with required medical care, referrals to facilities, and helping in the recovery process of children with severe and moderate acute malnutrition.

Under the program, children are assessed anthropometrically and medically, and an appetite test is conducted to decide the level of care. Nutritional treatment is provided, and only Balamrutham + is given to children with severe and moderate acute malnutrition. Medicines are provided to SAM children only. The program also includes nutrition and health education, fortnightly visits to Anganwadi Centers to monitor the child's progress, and discharge from the program based on recovery in weight. Follow-up is done after discharge from the program till the end of six months.
