SpellTower is a puzzle app based on finding words hidden in stacks of lettered tiles. The basic version is free, although you have the choice of getting extra features with a paid upgrade. Even in its free form, it has a solid variety of features.

This app mixes the word-spelling puzzles of Wordle with the tile-based format of games like Candy Crush Saga. You will have to spell words, but you will also have to keep an eye on the grid.

Spell words, clear tiles

SpellTower has three gameplay modes in its free version, though only one (Tower) will be unlocked at the start. In Tower mode, you will be shown a grid of letters. Your job is to draw lines connecting letters to spell words. Once you've spelled a word, the letters will disappear, causing the above blocks to fall downwards.

Watch for blue tiles

There are a few tricks you can use to clear tiles faster. If you spell a word of five letters or more, then all adjacent tiles will be cleared with it. You can also keep an eye out for blue tiles. If you incorporate these into a word, they'll remove adjacent tiles at the same time.

Extra modes

Completing rounds gets you Puzzle and Rush modes. In Puzzle, each word you make will add another row — the objective is to make as many words as possible before the rows pass the screen's top. Rush has the same idea, but rows are added automatically, giving a time limit. More modes can be unlocked by purchasing the full version.

Something that all ages will appreciate

SpellTower is a game with something for all ages. It offers educational fun for kids and is racing enough for older players. Note that it recognizes curse/swear words. However, unless they deliberately spell out the words, children will not come across this issue.
