The story of the game revolves around the concept of justice, which has its roots in the Greek mythology. It tells of a great battle between the Gods and the Spartans.

The player will take the role of the warrior Sparta, who has been deceived by the Gods into believing that he has killed his wife and daughter. In order to atone for his sins, he will take on the role of the God Kratos, and go on a journey to the land of the dead.
