Sonic The Hedgehog 2 Classic is an action platformer developed by the creators of Sonic The Hedgehog.

The game was published by Sega for the Genesis and Sega Saturn, and was one of the first games in the series.

The game, while being developed for Sega's Genesis and Saturn, was not developed for the Sega CD, and later models of the Sega Mega Drive and Sega Master System were released.

Sonic The Hedgehog 2 is the first in the series to include some of Sonic's allies, most notably Tails, and includes an expanded story, including a subplot about Sonic and Knuckles' rivalry.

Some of the game's levels also introduce new gameplay elements, such as the ability to throw objects and bounce, giving Sonic the ability to access new areas.

The game also introduces a new level design philosophy, which includes short, linear levels that focus on Sonic's ability to roll and fly, and levels with hidden secrets.
