Songs of Conquest – Roots is a single-player strategy game that expands the world of Songs of Conquest. Emerging from the deep, enigmatic Wyldwoods of the Bleak East, the Roots faction brings forth a living forest of sentient flora, relentless fungal colonies, and repurposed skeletal warriors. This offers fresh tactical depth, reshaping the way players approach conquest and resource management. 

In Songs of Conquest – Roots, the introduction of new Wielders, beings reanimated under the command of the mysterious Tree Mothers, adds a unique dynamic. With new mechanics centered around Essence manipulation and an immersive biome teeming with new structures and artifacts, this DLC revitalizes Songs of Conquest. 

A living, breathing force of nature 

The Roots faction in Songs of Conquest – Roots introduces eight new troops, each infused with nature’s raw power. These units are not merely warriors; they are also the extensions of the Wyldwoods themselves, bearing traits and abilities that emphasize resilience, regeneration, and symbiotic synergy. The skeletal remnants of past heroes, now under fungal control, add an eerie touch to the faction’s aesthetic and combat capabilities. 

Nine new Wielders lead the charge, each with unique specializations that complement the faction’s playstyle. These commanding figures shape battles in innovative ways, utilizing Essence in a manner distinct from existing factions. Their connection to the sentient forest enables strategies that emphasize growth, decay, and adaptive warfare, ensuring diverse approaches to both the offense and defense of players in the game. 

The new biome is a visual and strategic marvel. The Bleak East’s sentient forests provide a crucial gameplay element. Players will navigate dense, shifting woods, establish settlements, and construct faction-specific buildings. Five new Conquest maps take full advantage of this eerie environment, while two additional challenge maps test even the most seasoned commanders. However, despite adding five new Conquest maps and two challenge maps, this DLC lacks a dedicated story-driven campaign.
