USB Flash Drive Data Recovery
Free Data Recovery Software for a USB Flash Drive
Flash drive recovery for deleted files on USB sticks and SD cards
SoftOrbits Flash Drive Recovery is flash drive recovery software for Windows. It brings back files deleted from a USB stick or a memory card, and files lost after a quick format. The drive is opened read only, and what the scan finds is shown as a folder tree before anything is saved.
Plug in the flash drive, or put the memory card into a card reader, and start SoftOrbits Flash Drive Recovery.
Pick the drive in the list. Only removable drives are listed, each with its size and file system.
Press Scan. The quick scan reads file system records and usually takes seconds. For a formatted drive, tick Deep scan first: its estimated time in minutes is printed next to the box.
Open folders in the tree and click a file. Its name, size and a picture preview appear on the right.
Tick the files you need, choose a destination folder on your hard disk and press Recover.
Scanning and preview are free. Saving the found files to disk needs the full version.
Deleted files with their folders. On FAT32, exFAT and NTFS drives the folder tree comes back with file names, if the file system records survive.
Recover a formatted flash drive. A quick format rewrites the file tables and leaves the data where it was. Deep scan in SoftOrbits Flash Drive Recovery reads the whole drive and picks up photos and Office documents by signature.
A scan you can follow. The window shows how much has been read, the speed and the time left. Stop ends the scan at once.
Damage is reported. A file with unreadable sectors is marked partially recovered, and the final message counts such files.
Nothing is written to the source. SoftOrbits Flash Drive Recovery refuses a destination folder on the drive it has scanned.
Twenty interface languages. Switch them in the main window.
Photographers who formatted a card in the camera before copying the shoot.
Students and office workers who deleted the wrong folder from a USB stick.
Drivers who erased dash cam footage from the card by mistake.
Is there a recycle bin on a USB drive?
No. Windows deletes files from a removable drive at once, and the Recycle Bin is skipped. The data stays on the stick until something new is written over it. Stop using the stick and scan it with SoftOrbits Flash Drive Recovery.
Can a flash drive be recovered?
Usually yes, if Windows still lists it as a drive. SoftOrbits Flash Drive Recovery finds deleted files and files left behind by a quick format. A stick the computer does not detect at all has a hardware fault that software cannot fix.
Can SD card data be recovered?
Cameras format cards as FAT32 or exFAT, and SoftOrbits Flash Drive Recovery reads both. On a FAT card a short file name may come back without its first letter, because the file system overwrites that letter when a file is deleted. The photo itself is intact.
How can I recover a corrupted SD card?
Do not format the card and do not run a disk check: both rewrite the records a scan relies on. Put the card into a reader, run a deep scan and copy the files to the computer. Then format the card and use it again.
SoftOrbits Flash Drive Recovery runs on Windows 11 and 10 and works offline, so nothing from your drive is uploaded. External hard disks and SSDs are not listed: Windows reports them as fixed disks. Questions go to SoftOrbits support, and the Send log to support link attaches the scan log.
