Smartspacer is a free utility application for mobile devices from indie developer Kieron Quinn. It is a widget app that can directly integrate with Google's At A Glance widget to allow for further customization and additional functionality. It's also able to perform modifications without needing root access.

Compared to the aforementioned widget that comes built into the Google Now Launcher, Smartspacer boasts seamless integration and allows for complete control without disrupting the core functionality. It will also work with any third-party app launcher that users may have running on their devices for better support and compatibility.

More glanceable information

The At A Glance widget is one of the more underrated features Google has implemented on its Pixel devices. It doesn't take up much space on your home screen but displays important information like appointments, weather alerts, traffic updates, and more at a glance. However, limited customizability and integration with third-party apps have always been some of its weak points. The Smartspacer app aims to change that.

This app does its magic utilizing the concept of Targets and Complications. The former basically represents a page of information much like how Google does it. It's with the latter that it takes things one step further, making it possible to display multiple types of data at the same time. With that, it enhances the At A Glance widget and shows more glanceable info.

It also builds upon third-party support, which currently has 20 Plugin integrations with popular services like Uber, Amazon, and others. There are a couple of things to note before proceeding, though. The first is that like the At A Glance widget, its functionality is limited to certain regions. The second is the rather steep learning curve that requires additional setup to have things running properly.

Worth the effort

If you extensively take advantage of Google's At A Glance widget, Smartspacer is pretty much a must-have as it enhances the experience and makes it even for useful.
