Sleepless Kevin is a free horror game that uses a creepy setting with a series of jump scares to frighten the player. It is a first person horror game where you have no offensive capabilities, so all you can do is run from the scary ghost that jumps out at you.

The ambient noises, the whispering, the sudden darkness and the jump scares are very similar to Five Nights At Freddy’s (FNAF). The setting for this first person indie horror game is reminiscent of the portions between nightmares in the game Silent Hill 4.

Is Sleepless Kevin suitable for kids?

At the end, the ghost is clearly visible, is not scary, and is brushed off as a joke. However, the run-up to the end has tense moments and jump scares that may frighten and distress younger children.

How do you play Sleepless Kevin?

You walk around the house and interact with objects. Keep doing this, and then go back to bed. As you play, the environment and ghost scare you until the very end when the ghost is revealed to be a funny inhabitant of your house.

Janky animation and cheap jump scares

This jump scare game is an indie project that does quite a lot with what looks like Playstation 2 era graphics. The jump-scares are poorly modeled, poorly animated, and cheap, but that is part of its charm.

Best played with headphones

This indie horror game had just a tiny production budget, but the sound design is very clever. Using stereo sound tricks, it sounds like sounds are coming from a certain direction within the room the player is actually sitting in. The tricks are old hat in this day and age, but they are applied impressively in this game.
