The idea of a college was first introduced in India in the year 1968. In 1979, the first university was established in India, the Vishwa Bharati Vidyalaya.

The Sir MV PU College was established in the year 2009 in the village of Davangere, in the district of Hubli. The college was named after the great Engineer of India, SIR Mokshagondum Visweshwariah.

In India, it is considered a great achievement to establish a college. Therefore, the idea of the college was accepted by the government and it was established in the village of Davangere.

The college is a joint educational institute for boys and girls, offering courses in science, arts, commerce and philosophy. The courses are available in English, Kannada and Hindi.
