Silver is a late-90s action RPG, recently improved to run more effectively on modern operating systems. You play as a courageous young knight named David, whose wife is kidnapped by the titular Silver, the iron-fisted sorcerer who rules the realm. David's wife isn't the only one in danger, either, and so you, as David, must gather allies, master swordplay, and lead a rebellion against Silver!

Victory In Each Sweep Of The Blade

In Silver, you use the mouse to control your sword. Move your mouse left, and your sword swings left. Move it up, and your sword swings up. It's intuitive yet frenetic, and it manages to be unique while also being genuinely fun. Other weapons, such as crossbows and magic, are handled through a similar control scheme. Beyond combat, there's a lot of people to talk to, from valuable allies to hateful enemies to traitors lying in wait. The game's story unfolds very slowly, primarily through conversations with these characters, and in between conversations, you'll be navigating a large number of dark forest paths and forgotten ruins.

Classic Gameplay In Every Sense

So, if you're willing to accept Silver's particular blend of hack-and-slash with contemplative story, this is definitely a game worth the price of admission. The only trick is that despite software updates, the game still has many of the same bugs that it did the day it was released. Be ready for that, and you'll have fun.
