Shiv Chalisa

Lord Shiva is also known as Neelkantha, Mahesha or Mahadeva. He is the third member of the Hindu Trinity and is known as the destroyer of the world, the other two being Vishnu the preserver and Brahma the creator of the world.

He is the supreme god of the yogis and the Jain scientists and practitioners of the art of healing. The river Ganga falls upon his head. The trident (three-pronged symbol) and the damru are the symbol of his power. There is a crescent of the fifth day moon on his head.

The most important characteristics of Lord Shiva are his Third VERTICAL EYE, his crescent-shaped, three-pronged symbol, and the trident (three-pronged symbol) in the middle of his forehead.
