SHIFTY - Smart Proxy Manager, created by the Shifty development team, helps manage multiple proxy servers and simplify switching inside desktop Chromium browsers. The extension centralizes proxy profile configuration and in-browser controls so users can select a network identity without extra tooling. It targets professionals who need repeatable IP rotations and localized testing, offering a focused workflow for web developers, QA testers, SEO specialists, and privacy-conscious users.

What is SHIFTY used for?

SHIFTY is a Chrome extension that maps browsing requests to chosen proxies, aimed at managing multiple network identities for testing or localized access. It integrates with the Chrome Proxy API to modify browser routing without external tooling, giving granular control over which traffic uses a proxy. The extension exposes profile controls in the browser UI so switching and verification happen inside the session rather than an external client.

How does the app automate proxy selection?

The app includes Advanced Auto-Switch rules that match URL patterns or domains and route those requests through specified proxies automatically. Users create patterns, assign a proxy profile, and the extension activates the rule when loading matching pages. This per-request routing lets testers and SEO professionals apply different geographic proxies to specific sites without manual switching, reducing manual steps during multi-location testing or content verification tasks.

What proxy protocols and authentication does the app support?

SHIFTY supports HTTP, HTTPS, SOCKS4, and SOCKS5 protocols and accepts proxy credentials, allowing users to save usernames and passwords for private servers. Connection status indicators display which profile is active so users can verify routing in real time. The extension's support for these protocols makes it suitable for varied backend tests and for accessing services that require specific proxy protocol behavior.

Is SHIFTY practical for large proxy inventories and Chromium workflows?

The app offers bulk import and export to handle extensive proxy lists and does not impose a hard limit on entries, which suits large-scale testing. Its modern, lightweight interface aims to reduce clutter, and the developer notes minimal system resource impact through Chromium integration. SHIFTY runs in Google Chrome and other Chromium-based browsers on desktop; Incognito use requires enabling the extension in browser settings.

Practical choice for professionals who manage many proxies

For multi-location testing, start by importing a small proxy subset and validate routing against a staging site before deploying rules broadly. SHIFTY is a practical option for web developers, QA testers, SEO professionals, and privacy-focused users who need repeatable per-site proxy behavior; expect an initial configuration effort to define URL patterns and rule sets that match your testing workflow.
