The museum is a key national project and the largest cultural infrastructure investment in Shanxi Province since its establishment.

The architectural complex of Shanxi Museum consists of a main building and four corner auxiliary buildings. The main building, shaped like a tripod with four extended wings, symbolizes prosperity and stability, interpreting ancient architectural aesthetics through modern technological means. The four corner auxiliary buildings house offices, conference centers, exhibition halls, and art centers, collectively resembling majestic cultural structures that have become a significant landmark in Taiyuan city.
