Sennheiser Smart Control Plus, from Sonova Consumer Hearing GmbH, is a companion app that manages modern Sennheiser wireless hardware. It pairs with compatible post-2021 MOMENTUM and ACCENTUM devices to let owners personalize sound, control connections, and apply location-based behavior plus firmware updates from the phone. The app groups tools for guided personalization, fit verification, broadcast audio handling, and a quick-access sound dashboard. It targets audiophiles, frequent travelers, and active users seeking device-level tuning and automation.

How the app creates a personalized listening profile

The app uses a guided listening flow to produce per-user equalization and fit diagnostics. The Sound Check routine plays calibrated audio samples and records preferences to generate an EQ preset, while the Fit Test evaluates acoustic seal for true wireless earbuds. A dedicated quick-access tile surfaces saved presets so the user can switch between saved profiles without navigating complex menus.

How the app interacts with phone and device connections

The app is redesigned for faster device discovery and improved connection stability compared with the legacy companion, so pairing and reconnection are the primary operational gains. It supports over-the-air firmware delivery to update hardware features and performance. The app requires Android 8.0 or higher and a compatible Sennheiser device released after 2021, which defines the supported device pool and the update path.

What permissions and safety trade-offs it asks for

Certain automation features rely on phone permissions: location services power the zone-based automation, and account sign-in unlocks sync and advanced personalization. The app provides a map of the last-known device location and an audible signal to help locate nearby headphones. Over-the-air updates install firmware directly to the device, so users should perform updates when network conditions are stable.

Who benefits most and how steep the learning curve is

Owners who want device-level control and finer acoustic tuning gain the most from this app. Guided routines lower the entry barrier for casual users, while broadcast stream management and manual ANC sliders give more control to experienced listeners. The redesigned interface and faster discovery reduce setup friction, though some broadcast and streaming workflows require a short familiarization period.

Who should pick Smart Control Plus and why

Smart Control Plus is a practical option for owners of post-2021 Sennheiser headphones and earbuds who want phone-based device control and personalized listening profiles; its main trade-off is lack of support for older Sennheiser models. For reliable operation, apply firmware updates on stable Wi-Fi during idle hours and review location permissions before enabling automation. It suits users who accept a device-focused ecosystem instead of cross-generational compatibility. Recommended.
