You have to use the points you get from that word to fight the enemy. After you form the word, the level is unlocked and you can use the points to buy more tiles, or to buy an extra life.

You can buy more tiles to help you in the game, but you can only use one at a time. And the tiles you buy will only help you if you buy them before the level is completed.
