Saral App is a free optical character recognition (OCR) tool by Technosys Services and the Government of Uttar Pradesh. Built with the Indian educator in mind, it requires a user ID and password as well as access to your camera and storage. 

Scan physical questionnaires

After logging in to Saral App, you can select your class, section, subject, and paper set and mark your students as either present or absent. Tapping the “Next” button will bring you to the “Summary Page” where you’ll be able to scan test papers using your device’s camera. 

Once scanned, it will show the question number and the answer for each one. The above-mentioned page also displays the total student count, submitted scans, and the number of present and unsubmitted scans. One caveat of this app is that the scanner does not work all the time.

Has consistency issues

Saral app leverages OCR technology to scan and convert answers on a physical test paper into electronic form, though its biggest drawback is the scanner’s failure to maintain consistent functionality. Moreover, this program also needs a password and user ID in order for educators to use it.
