Rural Lookout is a mobile application developed by New Zealand Police to help rural communities in the Waimakariri and Hurunui Districts report suspicious incidents quickly and easily. This free app is designed to help people report any crime or suspicious activity they may have witnessed, no matter how small. The app is currently being trialled in rural areas of North Canterbury, New Zealand, and is not available for use outside of the trial area.

Rural Lookout is ideal for reporting incidents such as illegal hunting, trespassers on your land, drones hovering over your buildings, deliberate damage to your property, and suspicious vehicles or persons in the area. When you send a report, you will receive an email with your report details and a reference number. The police will review your report and get in touch with you if they need more information. Your report will be kept confidentially and securely, and your information will not be shared with your neighbors or community unless you choose to tell them.
