Bulk Rename for Windows with preview, presets, and command line

rskrename is a modern Windows tool for the structured processing of large amounts of files. The software assists in renaming, copying, and moving files and is aimed at users who value control, clarity, and traceable processes.

The application operates with a clearly structured workflow. First, the source and target are defined, then rules can be configured and the result can be checked in a live preview. Only after that does the actual execution take place. This way, it can be seen in advance how file names will change, whether conflicts arise, and whether the chosen rule chain leads to the desired result.

It covers both simple and more complex tasks. Supported features include prefixes and suffixes, text replacements, numbering, changes to case sensitivity, extension logic, and regular expressions. Multiple rules can be combined, adjusted in their order, and activated or deactivated individually as needed.

Additionally, the software features a flexible token and pattern system. This allows file names to be constructed based on placeholders, such as with date, time, sequential numbers, folder names, or other file information. Metadata from media collections can also be incorporated into the naming process, making the application particularly interesting for photo imports, music archives, video files, and other structured collections.

For recurring tasks, presets can be saved and reused later. This saves time in regular workflows and ensures consistent results. Furthermore, in addition to the desktop interface, there is also a command line variant. This allows defined presets to be used not only interactively but also in scripts, batch files, or automated processes.

Another focus is on security and traceability. Before execution, the software checks the planned run, displays problematic entries, and by default prevents accidental overwriting of existing files. This is complemented by undo functions, logging, and a structured result overview after the completion of a process.

Processing occurs locally on the user's own computer. A cloud connection or user account is not required for use.

Important features at a glance:

  • Rename, copy, or move files in large quantities

  • Live preview before execution

  • Combinable rules for simple and complex naming patterns

  • Support for tokens, patterns, and metadata

  • Presets for recurring tasks

  • Undo and logging functions

  • Additional command line variant for automated processes

  • Local processing without cloud

Note on the trial version: In the free trial version, usage is limited to 25 files per renaming operation, one saved preset, and no export of logs or lists. This allows the workflow to be tested calmly before all functions are fully unlocked after licensing.
