The continent’s safety relies on you
Royal Order is a free simulation video game wherein you must help manage a magical organization. Developed by Nifty Visuals, this 2D indie dating simulation game is both an otome and a Boys’ Love (BL) visual novel—offering the chance to pursue LGBT relationships with your customizable character.
As the indirect sequel to Royal Alchemist, Royal Order is a story-rich interactive fiction game set in a medieval fantasy world, with stat-raising gameplay and multiple endings. Please note that this is the demo version. This game also doesn’t always work on certain operating systems and will require extra steps to launch.
Join the Order and fight for justice
In Royal Order, you play as Aarya de Chabenet, a powerful mage who has recently been recruited into the titular organization. This group is tasked with fighting against pirates who have been causing havoc all over the continent. With the help of the chosen royal heirs from three kingdoms, you have to balance both your official duties and the task of keeping the fragile peace between the royal factions.
In this game, you can somewhat customize the main character. You can change their appearance via gender, give them a different first name, and choose their pronouns. These won’t drastically change anything in the story, since you can pursue any of the three love interests—which happen to be two male characters and one female character. What will matter, however, are your time-management skills.
You must work on raising your stats and behavior in order to win. There are also various quests to complete. You only have 60 in-game weeks and there are 8 endings available—as well as several possible deaths. However, you can choose from three different game modes for the difficulty: Story, Adventure, and Challenge. This sort of decreases the replay value but you can still die in the easiest mode.
Love and danger await you
All in all, Royal Order is a great dating sim game if you like themes centered around magic, court intrigue, and raising stats as a gameplay mechanic. While the replayability can be controlled through the difficulty mode, it’s still a fairly sizable game with lots of content to keep you engaged. If you’re interested in these kinds of dating sim games, you can try out Scout: An Apocalypse Story and Andromeda Six.
