It follows Derin Larkspur, a girl who wishes to become a knight like her dad. Along with her friends, Arlette and Elain, she will prove herself a candidate for the Academy by driving the witch in the wood away.

Rose Knight and Thorn Witch: Chapter 1 is a fairy tale yuri visual novel series. The first chapter is titled The Girl Who Wanted to Become a Knight. As mentioned, it stars Derin Larkspur, an energetic girl who wishes to become a knight. She longs to leave her village behind and become a candidate for the Academy. To do that, she vows to drive the witch in the woods away.

The game features a fun story. It is well-paced and engaging. The characters all had distinct personalities, especially the protagonist with her exuberant and good-natured demeanor. Although, unlike other visual novels, there are only one or two instances where you have options to pick. However, while it is not a lot, it helps keep the reading experience fresh and immersive.

Visual-wise, the illustrations are pretty good. They are not massively detailed, but they have a nice style to them. Although, some scenes are not illustrated but narrated instead. It is expected for this game genre, but it would have been nice to see them drawn. Additionally, some music is way too loud. There are even parts—the goofy child singing—which are a bit weird to hear. 

Is the game good?

Overall, Rose Knight and Thorn Witch: Chapter 1 offers a charming story. The plot is engaging and well-paced that you won't get bored even though there is not much to do aside from reading. The characters are also well fleshed out and are fun to spend time with. There are some issues, especially with its music. Nevertheless, it is enough to make you excited for the next chapters.
