Set during the fall of the Han Dynasty in ancient China, this game will have you battle armies to decide who will rule China. The game pays homage to the original RTK14 released in 1985 with its new game map, which shows the territory captured using a simplified color system. Everything in the game, from war to diplomatic affairs, will be geared towards managing and gathering land. Players will need to spread their strategies at will to conquer the vast map of China.

The Three Kingdoms is a strategy series that has more than 30 years of history. However, the core gameplay constantly changes with every release of a new title. Sometimes it adopts RPG mechanics, allowing you to play any role you like that can stir up situations on the kingdom. Other times, it focuses on more of the tactical thinking side and presents a war situation in the form of a turn-based war game. 

The Romance of the Three Kingdoms XIV game has the classic gameplay of the series. However, its extended strategy depth is something new. For one, the concept of the world will be different—in a way that it is equivalent to dozens of cities, ports, and gates. The game also defines the concept of territory in the form of a grid. Moreover, occupying a stronghold is not the same as controlling the entire area. You need to paint these grids to your color to truly establish the foundation. You can do so by sending officials to govern them or by sending troops to patrol the area. 

All in all, Romance of the Three Kingdoms XIV can be regarded as a masterpiece in the series. It is the closest adaptation to the novel and is the most novice-friendly among the game titles. It is easy to get started and the system is simple. There are still a few drawbacks, such as the subpar graphics and boring diplomatic system, but the core still retains the strategic depth of any work.
