Redout 2 is a premium racing game for PC by developer 34 BigThings. It is the sequel to the critically acclaimed futuristic racer, Redout. In it, players take control of advanced vehicles and engage in high-speed anti-gravity races in various locations and tracks in the distant future.

Compared to its predecessor, Redout, the biggest change that Redout 2 brings is vastly improved graphics, which is a testament considering the original already had great visuals. Players will return to participate in the Solar Redout Racing League, as well as discover rich and diverse lore on various topics and themes.

Breakneck speeds

In Redout 2, you will once again be returning to compete in the Solar Redout Racing League, a hyperspeed anti-gravity motorsport using a variety of futuristic hovercrafts. Jump into Career Mode, and participate in racing events across 36 tracks with various themes, including Arena Races, Time Attacks, and many more. Unlock 12 distinct ship designs, and customize their propulsors, engine, and wings, just to name a few.

The gameplay is easy to learn but tough to master. Aside from acceleration and breaking, you can strafe left and right for tight corners, and tilt up and down on steep climbs and loops. There are also two types of boosts. The first is the on-track boost pad, while the second is your ship's hyperboost, which can overheat and blow up if used continuously.

You can negate the damaging effects of hyperboost if you stop boosting and by driving clean, avoiding bumps and collisions. Take a break from solo playing by challenging others in online multiplayer races with up to 12 racers. Some newcomers might encounter a steep learning curve, particularly when it comes to balancing the game's boost mechanic. The same goes for the tracks, which can get pretty complex and tough.

A balancing act

If you're a fan of the original, you'll be glad that Redout 2 is just as fun and thrilling to play, with the added benefit of visual upgrades and more content. The tracks are varied and the customization options are quite extensive. The boost mechanic is one aspect that many will have a tough time with. With time and practice, though, they'll get the hang of it soon enough. Recommended.
