Narrative-driven retro JRPG adventure
Quartet is a premium role-playing game developed by Something Classic Games LLC. It is a retro JRPG adventure set in a fantasy world that follows the unique stories of heroes coming together to uncover the secrets of a century-old conflict. Each of its playable characters has unique spells and abilities to employ and combine during tactical turn-based battles.
Much like Chained Echoes and Sea of Stars, Quartet boasts a beautiful pixel art style that complements its story, world-building, and characters. A demo version is also available for newcomers to check out and get a preview of its gameplay and story.
Intertwining tales
Quartet revolves around four unique stories that tell a deep, interconnected narrative about a long-standing conflict that shaped the world over the course of a century. Lead a group of unlikely heroes who have awakened to their powers and go on a perilous journey to uncover the dark secrets of the past, while coming to terms with their newfound magical abilities and the effects their actions will have.
There are a total of eight heroes that will form your party as you progress through the game’s four distinct stories. Combat is turn-based and features a unique system wherein you will be able to switch between two squads of four heroes on the fly, allowing you to plan and strategize on how best to defeat the diverse enemies you’ll face.
Explore a vast world divided into multiple unique biomes filled with pitfalls and obstacles to overcome, as well as secrets and hidden treasures to discover, including new gear and weapons for your squad. One thing that could be improved in Quartet is a better and more detailed map. It can be rather easy to get lost and confused while exploring its vast world.
Charming and engrossing
In summary, if you are a fan of classic JRPGs, Quartet offers an engaging and engrossing experience that is worth checking out. From its deep narrative to its vast explorable open world and dynamic combat mechanics, there’s plenty to like about it. Hopefully, the issue mentioned above will be addressed quickly. Give the demo a try and see for yourself.
