PROCIV Azores is the emergency management system of the Azores, the first of its kind in Portugal and in the European Union, and the only one with a dedicated function of rapid response to emergencies, including natural disasters and other dangerous situations. The system consists of a number of emergency response centers and the National Emergency Service, which is responsible for determining the type of incident and its severity, and determining and coordinating the necessary response and recovery measures.
