Princess Salon is a beauty salon game in which you need to help princesses get ready for their promo show by pampering them and giving them a makeover.

Get dressed to impress

There are four princesses to choose from, although only one is available to makeover for free, the rest have to be purchased in-app.

In order to get your princess ready for their big day there's a lot to do to get them looking nice. First, you treat them to a spa session, where you need to wash their hair before applying various skin treatments to get their face all smooth. Once you've done this, it's on to the hair and makeup section, where you pick a hair-do before applying eye, mouth and face makeup onto the princess. Finally, you need to pick an outfit and accessories to turn your princess into the belle of the ball.

In each section, there are plenty of options to choose in terms of treatments, hair-styles, makeup, clothes, etc. There are even more that are locked, which can be purchased via the app for you to use when you like.

Another nice feature of Princess Salon is the ability to take a photo of your princess and send it to a friend or share on Facebook.

Working your way around the salon

Applying the beauty treatments in Princess Salon is simple and fun. Along the bottom of the screen you see the available treatments or makeups, which you can browse by sliding across. Once you've selected one you just need to slide your finger across the princess' face to apply the treatment or makeup. Mostly, this works well although we experienced a couple of bugs whereby the makeup implement would get stuck and we either couldn't put it down or couldn't pick it up.

Dressing the princess is just as straightforward. The slider at the bottom represents the various types of clothing, and the available items for each type are displayed in a column on the right of the screen. Just touch one and it will change on screen.

Looking good

The overall app design of Princess Salon is fittingly prestine and elegant. All of the girls, who each represent a different continent, look beautiful. Although they aren't lifelook they look great in a Disney princess kind of way.

When your princess is ready, you see her appear in the ballroom at the prom in all her glory. It would be nice if this part of the game would animate or if you could zoom in to see a close-up of her face, as it's a bit static as it is.

The verdict

Princess Salon is a fun and engaging makeover game, which most young girls will especially enjoy. However, once you've been through all the outfits you might get a bit bored of the gameplay.
