Summon, strategize, and survive with cards
Phantomancer is a premium card game that seamlessly blends strategic deckbuilding with roguelike elements, placing players in command of powerful phantoms and arcane spells. Set in a shadowy world overrun by monstrous threats, this turn-based game follows Hitoyo, a young magician, as she navigates a series of increasingly difficult encounters.
Phantomancer shares similar elements with Slay the Spire, but it trades flashy combos for a more deliberate, summon-focused experience. Every decision—whether it’s summoning a Phantom or stashing a card for later—matters. Expect a thoughtful and rewarding card battler that leans heavily into strategy and planning.
Magic, memory, and strategy
Phantomancer centers on Hitoyo, a magician sent by the Magic Association to eliminate a growing monster threat. As players progress, they gradually uncover the story of her sister, Hinano, whose fate is tightly connected to the mission. With each cleared level, new memories and lore pieces are revealed. These elements give context to repeated runs and tie the unfolding narrative directly to the player's in-game achievements.
The game’s battles are built around a deck of cards, with moves determined by whatever players draw each turn. Only a few cards are available at first, but over time, the pool expands to over 150 cards with a mix of consumable items and spells. This gives players more variety and tools to work with. Since every run resets from the beginning, no two sessions play out the same way.
Adding a unique twist, the game introduces the “Pouch" system, which lets players hold onto specific cards and use them when it counts most. Advanced phantoms can also be kept in the Pouch for immediate use. Additionally, players can use fruits acquired mid-run to enhance specific cards. However, since no upgrades or stats carry over between runs, players seeking long-term progression may find the experience more repetitive over time.
A tale told through every turn
To sum up, Phantomancer delivers a well-crafted blend of card battler strategy and character-driven storytelling, wrapped in vibrant anime-inspired graphics. Its gameplay favors experimentation and quick thinking, rewarding players who enjoy depth over permanence. Although the absence of persistent upgrades might reduce long-term appeal, the game offers enough variety and challenge to satisfy fans of roguelike deckbuilders and strategic gameplay.
