Peridot is a free simulation game from Niantic Inc. This game puts you in charge of taking care of your virtual pet. Here, you will have a plethora of unique digital creatures that you can raise, care for, and even breed.

Peridot is an augmented reality game like other Niantic titles, such as Pokemon Go, Ingress, and Pikmin Bloom. It places a strong emphasis on walking around and exploring new places in the real world. Note that daily care is critical to your pets' happiness and survival. You will have to go out daily to keep them happy and alive.

How do you play this game?

Peridot is an original concept game from the creators of the popular Pokemon Go. However, unlike the AR game, it does not feature any trainer fighting or energy blasts. Instead, the gameplay will be like the classic Tamagotchi game, where you play as a pet owner. Here, you will have virtual pets called Peridots or Dots that you will take care of and raise to adulthood.

Like the Tamagotchi systems of the past, the game has a "desire system" that will tell you what your Dot wants. You will know if it wants to eat, play, take a walk, or see something nearby with you. However, like Pokemon Go, this is played in camera-based augmented reality. You will have to leave your house whenever your pet wants to go out.

Going out will also allow you to breed your Dot with other archetypes of digital pets. In a habitat located in a real-world location, you will find a nest where you can release your Dot to mingle with other adults. However, once they breed a new egg, your adult Dot will stay in the habitat with its partner. Don't worry, though. The new Dot will be yours to look after.

Should you play it?

Overall, Peridot is a must-play if you are into virtual pets and AR games. The app offers simple yet fun gameplay that is familiar to those who know Tamagotchi. Not only that, but it allows players to breed a new type of pet. However, unlike the classic virtual pet game, you will have to leave the house to keep your pets happy, which makes the experience more life-like.
