Ouija Rumours is a paid adventure game that raises awareness on spreading and believing in rumors. This psychological horror experience lets you experience being a mentally and emotionally drained father looking to right his wrongs with the help of a paranormal team. Not only do you get to meet your lost family, but you also get transported into an alternate dimension to experience what they have suffered.

Although its animations are clunky, Ouija Rumours puts the effort into the set designs as well as in the story. Other similar games include Evil Inside and Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water.

A twisted family reunion tale

To start, Ouija Rumours creates a discussion about starting rumors and uses this message to tell a twisted, scary family reunion story. As mentioned, your character seeks the help of a paranormal team, who after letting you establish a connection with the ghost of your daughter no longer helps nor appears in the story. It leaves you to uncover what happened to your family in your absence

At this point, it becomes a walking sim with various objectives. It usually falls under the object search category, with you having to find parts of materials to complete a fragment of their memories. For example, a picture or your child’s toy. Each provides a piece of the story. This lack of puzzle variety makes it predictable and too easy after a few stages.

Also, this game feels like a series of large stages, requiring few transitions with loading screens. It creates a strong sense of immersion and continuity, with breaks few and far in between. Unfortunately, the suspense and execution fall short because of its animation. Instead of surprising the player, it just pops into the screen with no effect or no transition, making it look like a visual glitch.

First-person thriller with underwhelming scares

As a first-person horror experience, Ouija Rumours has a promising premise with a social mission. It delivers the story well, stressing the importance of family and handling rumors. The game even allows you to experience long stretches of puzzles and adventure which is both immersive and emotionally challenging. Unfortunately, its puzzles are underperforming, and worse, they could’ve used a better execution for every time the ghost appears.
