OpenQuiz - AI Flashcards, developed by Phan Nguyễn Đức Hiếu, is an Android education app aimed at language learning and vocabulary retention. It converts text and photos into study-ready flashcards using OCR and AI, and it schedules reviews with a spaced repetition system to organize practice sessions. Key offerings include AI conversation practice, pronunciation feedback, and support for over fifty languages across multiple study modes. Designed for students and working learners, the app helps build recall and spoken confidence through regular practice.

How OpenQuiz turns notes and images into study material

The app automates card creation by extracting text from photos and plain text, then generating question–answer pairs. Supported input types include scanned notes, textbook pages, and pasted text, using OCR plus AI to interpret content. This process reduces the manual step of typing cards, and decks can be produced on-device from captured pages. The ability to import visual material suits learners who study from printed or handwritten sources.

How the learning method supports long-term recall and speaking practice

OpenQuiz applies a spaced repetition system to schedule reviews at expanding intervals, a study technique that strengthens long-term memory by timing repetitions. The app pairs this with interactive AI conversations that simulate dialogue and provide pronunciation feedback, helping learners practice speaking in context. Those two elements combine review scheduling with active production practice, which targets both recall and oral fluency rather than passive recognition alone.

Who benefits from the app and where it runs

Designed for students and professionals studying languages, the tool targets people who need to memorize vocabulary or rehearse speaking for exams, travel, or work. It supports more than fifty languages in a single interface and is available on Android devices, with companion availability for iPhone, iPad, and Mac. The license is free, which makes it accessible to self-directed learners and small study groups who want mobile-first practice.

How progress, content, and personalization are handled

Progress is shaped by personalized learning paths and multiple study modes, which adapt to user performance and include drills such as sentence building and vocabulary review. Users can create custom decks from captured material and follow guided practice sequences tailored to their pace. The app reports review scheduling and adjusts upcoming sessions based on past performance, giving learners a focused routine rather than an undifferentiated list of items.

OpenQuiz is a practical tool for focused vocabulary and speaking goals

OpenQuiz is a practical option for learners who need concentrated gains in vocabulary recall and spoken confidence. Its emphasis on language study narrows suitability for those seeking broad curriculum coverage, so pairing it with subject-specific resources makes sense for full-course work. For self-directed students and busy professionals, the app supports steady review habits and targeted speaking practice that fit mobile study routines.
