NTPC is an Indian energy corporation based in Mumbai, Maharashtra. It was founded by K.K.Malik in 1975 and started its operations in 1979. It is the first company in India to use a combination of hydro, nuclear and renewable energy sources to generate electricity.

The company is a conglomerate of various power utilities and companies. Some of its major operations include hydro power, nuclear power, wind power, solar power, power trading, coal mining, and various other power-related operations. It has been engaged in the business of power generation, electricity distribution and retail supply for over three decades and has contributed to the development of India's energy sector.

NTPC is a Maharatna company and is one of the four companies to be awarded this status. It was ranked 400th in the ‘2016, Forbes Global 2000’ ranking of the World’s biggest companies. The company has a revenue of US$16 billion and net income of US$3.6 billion. It employs around 7,000 people and has a network of 718 offices across India, Australia, Germany, Singapore and the US.
