Your music library keeps the keys
Noctis, created by heartached, is a privacy-focused local music player for listeners who maintain their own collections. It combines broad lossless audio support with library management, synced lyrics, customization, and optional online integrations. No account or mandatory telemetry stands between the user and their files. Its modern desktop interface suits casual listening, while advanced playback tools give audio enthusiasts greater control over formats, volume consistency, and output behavior.
Albums find their proper shelf
The library management system organizes music by songs, albums, artists, folders, playlists, and release types. Instant search, smart playlists, favorites, and drag-to-reorder controls help users navigate a curated collection. A metadata editor handles artwork, lyrics, and track information, while duplicate detection and bulk actions simplify maintenance. The file organizer can also rename or move songs according to their tags, although users need to review these changes before applying them.
Fidelity gets more than a volume knob
Playback supports FLAC, ALAC, WAV, Opus, MP3, and numerous other formats alongside gapless transitions and optional crossfade. Windows users gain bit-perfect WASAPI output, while ReplayGain normalization and a parametric equalizer provide additional control without altering the original files. An included audio backend reduces codec setup on Windows, although the application still lists .NET 8 as a requirement. The unsigned installer can also trigger an unrecognized-app warning during installation.
Privacy stays local by default
Noctis is an open-source music player released under the MIT license, with no required account, advertising, paid feature restrictions, or built-in telemetry. Its public source code makes the project available for inspection, although openness alone does not guarantee security. Local playback remains private by default, while optional services can make network requests for lyrics, artwork, biographies, updates, and scrobbling when users choose to enable them.
Online extras wait for an invitation
Common playback and navigation tasks work without extensive configuration, while enthusiasts can explore synced lyrics, themes, metadata editing, and remote personal libraries. Navidrome, network shares, and WebDAV provide access to music stored elsewhere without adding a commercial catalog. Last.fm, ListenBrainz, and Discord Rich Presence are also optional. Enabling Discord shares the current track with that third-party service, so its social convenience does not operate entirely within the local privacy model.
A strong home for music you own
Noctis offers a capable blend of high-quality playback, detailed organization, and privacy-conscious design for listeners who control their own music files. Its lossless tools and lack of mandatory tracking are the clearest strengths, while the modern interface keeps routine playback approachable. However, the unsigned Windows installer can create an intimidating first impression, and users expecting a built-in commercial streaming catalog need another service. For personal libraries, it provides considerably more than a simple play button.
