Nihilumbra is a classic platform game developed by BeautiFun Games, released in 2012 for iOS, and now available on Nintendo Switch. The game features a black creature named Born, who is born in absolute emptiness and has to escape it. The game’s name is a blend of two Latin words, nihil meaning “nothing,” and umbra meaning “darkness.”

The gameplay is about jumping between hanging platforms and avoiding blocks while exploring five different worlds, including the Frozen Cliffs, the Living Forest, the Ash Desert, the Volcano, and the City. The game’s key feature is the ability to color the surroundings, which modifies the setting. Each level offers a new color that can change the environment. For example, the blue color makes surfaces slippery, while the green color lets Born bounce. The graphics are performed in dark colors, and monsters are the same color as Born, black, and each of them is deadly. The game features quiet sound effects that support the gameplay.
